Nokia and A1 Austria announced that they have successfully completed the industry’s first 5G edge cloud network slicing trial with Microsoft. The deployment utilized Nokia’s 5G edge slicing solution integrated with Microsoft Azure managed edge compute on A1’s live commercial network in Vienna, Austria. With edge cloud network slicing, A1 can bring enterprise cloud applications to mobile users over a high capacity, secure and low latency network.

Astound Business Solutions Launches Ciena Powered Commercial 400G across the U.S.
Ciena announced that Astound Business Solutions launched 400G Wavelength, a commercial service that leverages Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Extreme 800G and WaveLogic 5 Nano 400G coherent optics to deliver the massive capacity required by large carriers, enterprises, and public sector organizations. Astound’s nationwide fiber-optic network covers more than 41,000 route miles and provides connectivity for over 75,000 business customers, as well as to more than 100 data centers across the U.S.

FCC Makes AI Voices In Robocalls Illegal
The Federal Communications Commission announced the unanimous adoption of a Declaratory Ruling that recognizes calls made with AI-generated voices are “artificial” under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. The ruling, which takes effect immediately, makes voice cloning technology used in common robocall scams targeting consumers illegal. This would give State Attorneys General across the country new tools to go after bad actors behind these nefarious robocalls.
