Mobile technology continues to evolve at lightning speed. Mobile backend-as-a-service developer CloudMine this month announced its partnership with mobile development platform provider Xamarin to release a software development kit to help enterprises assemble a complete mobility 'stack' for scaling mobile development of healthcare apps across departments, teams, and projects requiring security and regulatory compliance.
In another effort to speed up mobile app development, non-profit open-source collaborative prpl Foundation announced the launch of a new online community enabling developers to share insights and collaborate on open source software projects around Android MIPS, Linux MIPs and others.
The growing volume of mobile data traffic is helping fuel the rise of LTE and heterogeneous networks (HetNets) which in turn is creating the need for self-organizing network testing solutions, according to a new study by Frost & Sullivan released in December. The study indicates that highly-automated, self-organizing networks and the ability to test them more efficiently will be key to achieving optimal network utilization as LTE and HetNets continue to grow and network operators face interoperability issues between cellular sites.
Meanwhile, AT&T is looking to ramp up its strategy to expand the fastest broadband service across the country. The carrier is expanding its 1 gigabit per second fiberoptic network to 38 cities across the U.S. in 2016 as more consumers rely upon the Internet for more entertainment content.
The FCC this month voted to remove a number of regulatory burdens to local phone companies to spur industry investment while still protecting consumer rights and competition. The FCC maintained rules still needed to ensure that consumers in rural areas and low-income consumers have access to affordable phone service and it preserved rules that continue to protect competition in the market for telecommunications services to businesses and other enterprises.
