The notion of ubiquitous connectivity has been around for some time. In the early days of Pipeline, I recall being huddled around the desks of fledgling editors talking about how
broadband and 3G were going to change everything. That was just the beginning.
Fast forward to today, and the evolution of connectivity has advanced by leaps and bounds. Today, your smartphone is really, really smart. You can take it on a plane, train, across the
ocean and into emerging markets without any interruption in service—taking your unlimited voice, text, and data package in tow. Networks traverse the air, land, sea, and space. Network speeds
have been turbocharged with AI, machine learning, edge, cloud and virtual technologies.
Satellite has even received a boost with the advent of new acceleration and modem technologies to support 5G service requirements.
Connectivity has now become ubiquitous, and mobile pervasive. But, this is just another beginning. The next step in the evolution of our Digital Era. This
is a game changer,
without a doubt. The culmination of these technologies will unlock never-before-seen societal advancements. These advancements will be used to
address world hunger, bring healthcare to regions where it is not available—and to
treat and cure diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
Self driving vehicles are on the way, and they may even
deliver your next order of groceries to your door. This new, digital future will be a fundamental shift, ushering in a new drove of opportunities—and risk. Which is why this issue of
Pipeline is so important.
We hope you enjoy this and every issue of Pipeline,
