NTT DATA Launches Monitoring Service for Brain HealthNTT DATA Launches Monitoring Service for Brain Health to Extend Healthy Life ExpectancyNTT DATA announced the launch of a new brain health monitoring service that analyzes driving data collected using AI and generates a brain health score. The aim is to extend healthy life expectancy and maintain long-term driving safety. The new service is available from April 2026. kokusai motorcars, a Japanese taxi operator, is NTT DATA's first client to conduct a trial of the solution. Globally, the number of people at risk of or living with cognitive decline, including conditions like dementia, is increasing, with incidence rising exponentially from the age of 65. Meanwhile, the proportion of fatal accidents where elderly drivers are the primary party is also increasing, and data suggests many of these cases involve individuals with suspected cognitive impairment. To help address this issue, NTT DATA developed an algorithm that identifies behavioral indicators correlated with brain health, translating these into a brain health score and periodic reports to raise cognitive awareness and help drivers track trends in brain health indicators over time. The solution does not detect dementia or mild cognitive impairment and is not intended for the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of disease. Instead, it is designed to provide drivers with awareness of changes in brain health indicators. km Taxi will begin deploying this service to approximately 700 employees aged 65 and over. Through regular monitoring of employees' brain health indicators, the company aims to integrate safety guidance by managers, consultations with occupational health staff and existing health initiatives. "The correlation between cognitive decline and traffic incidents is a growing societal challenge. However, the responsible deployment of technology solutions can help keep drivers, pedestrians and other road users safe", said Jun Nishida, Head of First Industry Business Sector, Japan, NTT DATA. "At NTT DATA, our mission is to positively impact society through responsible innovation. Working alongside km Taxi on this critical initiative will enable us to provide data that could encourage drivers to make behavioral changes to their lifestyles and driving habits - ultimately, extending driving longevity and healthy life expectancy." The service draws on data from existing in-vehicle devices, including GPS equipped dashcams, to analyze driving characteristics like speed, acceleration and high-risk behaviors. The service will initially only be rolled out in Japan as a corporate solution, but NTT DATA will explore global expansion opportunities. Source: NTT DATA media announcement | |
