Nokia Secures FCC Approval for Its In-Home Broadband DevicesNokia Secures FCC Approval for Its In-Home Broadband Devices, Ensuring Uninterrupted Deployments Across the U.S.
Nokia announced that its Beacons and ONT devices have received conditional approval from the FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau, formally exempting these platforms, including future variants, from the FCC Covered List of restrictions on foreign-made consumer Wi-Fi routers. Nokia’s Beacons and ONT Beacons are deployed by service providers across North America to deliver high-performance broadband to millions of subscribers. The approval allows operators to continue deploying without disruption, maintain rollout momentum, and invest with confidence in their broadband networks. Nokia is among a limited number of vendors that have met the requirements for conditional approval from the restriction on consumer-grade routers on the FCC’s Covered List - the list of equipment determined to pose an unacceptable risk to U.S. national security. In granting the conditional approval, the Department of War and the Department of Homeland Security determined that Nokia's products do not pose a risk to U.S. national security. "Over the past several years, Nokia has invested significantly to support U.S. broadband expansion, establishing domestic manufacturing, becoming the first technology vendor to self-certify its fiber portfolio as Buy America-compliant for BEAD, and delivering BABA-compliant products to operators building networks in unserved and underserved communities. This FCC conditional approval, combined with our commitment to manufacture Wi-Fi 8 gateways in the U.S., ensures our customers can continue deploying our products without disruption while investing with confidence in future network evolution." Sandy Motley, President of Fixed Networks at Nokia "This decision puts Nokia, the leading XGS-PON supplier in the U.S., in a strong position to support its customers' current deployments and future upgrades without compromise — a critical advantage in today's regulatory environment." Jeff Heynen, vice president, Broadband Access and Home Networking at Dell’Oro Group Nokia is also taking steps to further support its customers by committing to manufacturing its Wi-Fi 8 gateways in the United States. Wi-Fi 8 is the next major evolution of in-home wireless connectivity, designed to deliver higher reliability, improved performance, and a more consistent subscriber experience across every device in the home. The Wi-Fi 8 gateways will join Nokia's growing portfolio of U.S.-manufactured products, giving operators secure, compliant and domestically produced solution aligned with evolving policy and regulatory requirements.
