GLE has selected the Calix Vantage Support Service
to accelerate its Truestream fiber network initiative that will bring
advanced services, including gigabit internet, voice, and managed whole
home Wi-Fi to its members in northern Michigan. The fiber network will
expand over the next 8-10 years across GLE’s 26 county service area in
western lower Michigan. By partnering with Calix, GLE expects to reduce
its time to deploy new services and reduce deployment risk by leveraging
the expertise and experience developed by the Calix team through
hundreds of engagements with service providers. As GLE builds its next generation network on the Calix AXOS E9-2 Intelligent Edge System, the new Calix Vantage Support Service will help them quickly scale their operations. The Calix Professional Services team will also help GLE accelerate their network deployment through AXOS Enablement and Wi-Fi Enablement services. These services will support GLE’s whole-home and managed Wi-Fi services delivered through Calix GigaCenters, 804Mesh satellites, and Calix Support Cloud. “Over 80 years ago, GLE was formed to provide critical electric service to rural areas that other utilities would not serve, and that tradition continues today as we introduce a world-class fiber network to our members,” said Bill Scott, Great Lakes Energy President and CEO. “As we seek to bridge the digital divide in our rural communities, we believe reliable energy and communications solutions will enhance our members’ quality of life and promote a more vibrant economy for all. Its next-generation GPON network will deliver high-performance applications such as video streaming, video conferencing, online education, telemedicine, and gaming. GLE will also benefit from new capabilities to monitor and maintain the electric system, respond to outages faster, and identify and deploy system upgrades. With construction already underway, GLE is pre-registering members in a limited area for service that begins later this year. GLE plans to offer new services to all of their 125,000 members upon completion of the fiber network. To accelerate this service delivery timetable, GLE has engaged Calix to provide Vantage Support Services.
