Huawei Launches DigiTalent 3.0 to Empower Mauritius as a Digital Talent Powerhouse

President of Mauritius Attends Event as Huawei Commits to 4,000 ICT Training Opportunities over the Next Four Years

Huawei announced its plan to provide 4,000 ICT courses and classes in Mauritius over the next four years. These training opportunities will be provided by the Huawei ICT Academy, Huawei's Seeds for the Future program, training for government civil servants, SME digital transformation training, and digital literacy initiatives. The launch event was attended by H.E. Prithvirajsing Roopun, President of the Republic of Mauritius, Hon. Deepak Balgobin, Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, H.E. Liying Zhu, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, alongside lecturers and 200 students from over 10 universities.

In his keynote speech, H.E. Prithvirajsing Roopun, President of the Republic of Mauritius, highlighted the country's emergence as a hub of technological excellence, attracting global talent and fostering a digital innovation ecosystem. He emphasized the importance of continuous investment in talent development to nurture the country's talent pool. "Government's commitment to improving digital infrastructure is crucial for attracting investment and nurturing a conducive environment for ICT-driven enterprises. I thank Huawei team for their initiative in: Establishing robust ecosystems for both students and teachers, developing highly skilled ICT professionals, and ensuring the continuous growth of existing professionals…I am glad to see global players like Huawei supporting this national initiative of creating talent by training our workforce and increase their employability." The President further encouraged public and private collaboration to embrace the digital era by enhancing digital skills for all.

Hon. Deepak Balgobin, Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, remarked: "Mauritius has always been a pioneer in regional innovation. Our strategic investments in ICT infrastructure, coupled with our commitment to fostering a knowledge-based economy, have laid a strong foundation for our digital future. Continuous training and skill upgrading are essential." The Hon. Minister expressed his gratitude to Huawei for the unwavering commitment to developing ICT skills in Mauritius. "Their talent ecosystem is a shining example of how we can work together to build a prosperous ICT talent in our country."

H.E. Liying Zhu, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, added: "The DigiTalent program is a model of cooperation between China and Mauritius in human resources. I am pleased to see that the ICT talents cultivated by Huawei this year have promoted the digital development of the country. I fully recognize Huawei's active fulfillment of social responsibilities and wish Mauritian students and practitioners excellent results in this year's training program."

In Mauritius, Huawei has partnered with seven universities, including the University of Mauritius, University Technology Mauritius, Middlesex University, Polytechnics Mauritius, Curtin University, Rushmore University, and Africa Leadership College. Huawei has trained over 35 instructors and offered courses in AI, 5G, Datacom, Cloud Computing, and Photovoltaic Energy Systems. In recent years, more than 350 students and professionals have obtained Huawei's HCIA certification.

Mr. Kui Zheng, CEO of Huawei Mauritius, stated: "Digital talent has always been one of Huawei's strategic focuses and investment areas in Mauritius. Overall, Huawei has a top-level talent cultivation framework with three key initiatives: first, building a talent ecosystem for teachers and students; second, offering training for industry partners to equip them with digital skills; and third, partnering with governments to provide digital transformation training."

Looking ahead, Huawei aims to provide 4,000 ICT training opportunities in Mauritius over the next four years, focusing on AI, 5G, cloud, storage, and cybersecurity. Additionally, Huawei will organize job fairs to help students find employment and establish a partner-first recruitment mechanism to improve employment rates in the ICT field. This initiative will build a diverse talent skillset within the digital ecosystem and create more stable opportunities, ultimately bringing digital technology to every home and organization for a fully connected, intelligent world.
