Nokia selected by Andean Telecom Partners Perú for network infrastructure projects

  • Nokia supplying Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) and mobile access connectivity equipment, supporting Andean Telecom Partners’ strategy of offering neutral host capable solutions.

  • ATP will utilize Nokia’s GPON technology to provide seamless connectivity for residential, corporate, educational, or mobile backhaul use.

  • Additionally, Nokia’s ASiR solution will be deployed at one of ATP’s premier indoor coverage venues, offering its carrier customers superior indoor connectivity and an evolution path toward 5G.

Nokia announced it has been selected by Andean Telecom Partners Perú (ATP Perú) to support its rollout of neutral host digital infrastructure projects for both fixed fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and mobile (small cells) access in Peru. This future-proofed digital infrastructure will help CSPs accelerate the deployment of telecom services in the country. The first indoor deployment is at the Aventura Mall in the northern city of Chiclayo, whilethe FTTH deployment is taking place in the Barranco district of the capital city, Lima. Nokia is the lead technology vendor for these projects, marking the first commercial agreement between the companies in Peru.

At Aventura Mall, Nokia will install its enhanced, cost-effective, next-generation Small Cell AirScale Indoor (ASiR) system in public shopping areas. This includes the ASiR PicoRRH solution, which has multi-operator and multi-band support that will enable Peru’s operators to provide connectivity across their AWS/2600/1900 bands.Nokia’s ASiR solution is designed to be a compact and flexible indoor system that facilitates a simple and seamless upgrade to 5G NR with minimal on-site work.

Nokia will also provide its Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) solutions beginning with the Barranco district of Lima, leveraging its GPON technology to provide seamless fiber connectivity for residential, corporate, and mobile backhaul use. The solution will allow ATP to offer an open access neutral fiber network, capable of hosting several tenants or CSPs.

ATP is a carrier-neutral wholesale optical fiber operator and digital infrastructure company with operations in Colombia, Peru and Chile. Among ATP’s ownership group is Digital Colony, one of the world’s largest digital infrastructure investment firms, focusing on data centers, macro cell towers, fiber networks and small cell networks.

Ari Lopes, Senior Research Manager, OMDIA in the Americas, said: “The demand for connectivity in Latin America has accelerated due to COVID-19. Digitalization of our region’s economies is irreversible, as consumers, businesses, and educational institutions require increasingly fast and reliable internet, driving greater demand for indoor solutions and optical fiber connectivity.”

Gilles Pons de Vier, General Manager, Andrean Telecom Partners Perú, said: “Nokia’s solutions portfolio allows us to offer neutral host digital infrastructure aligned with our customers’ needs. These exciting investments will play a fundamental both in helping to narrow Peru’s digital divide and in laying critical groundwork for future 5G network deployments. We look forward to working closely with Nokia as our partner to provide compelling connectivity experiences in both fixed and mobile services.”

Osvaldo Di Campli, Head of Latin America at Nokia, said: “We are delighted to begin this new collaboration with Andrean Telecom Partners in Peru as its trusted partner, and to bring our indoor connectivity solutions to retailers, shoppers, residential customers, and mobile network operators. ATP’s neutral host strategy will accelerate and encourage the deployment of telecommunications services across the country, and we anticipate more companies offering these services in Peru and other countries around the world. We look forward to paving the way for 5G in Peru with ATP.”
