Coriant to Boost Optical Networks Speeds to 100G for French RENATER

RENATER Selects Coriant mTera™ Universal Transport Platform and hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform to Bolster Optical Network Performance

New 100G-Capable Metro-to-Core Solution for French National Infrastructure Enhances Education and Research Collaboration and Simplifies High-Speed Service Provisioning

NAPERVILLE, Ill.--()--Coriant, a global supplier of SDN-enabled transport networking solutions, today announced that it has been selected to deploy a new 100G-capable end-to-end packet optical transport network for RENATER, the French national telecommunications network for technology education and research. The new ultra-high-speed network will expand the capacity and flexibility of RENATER’s infrastructure network and serve as a resilient and scalable foundation for enhanced collaboration between national and international researchers, scientists, educators, students, and other end-users.

Spanning approximately 15,000 kilometers of fiber optics and 75 points of presence, the RENATER transport infrastructure connects over 1,400 sites via campus, metropolitan, and regional networks and provides bandwidth and IP services that support a broad community of education and research institutions in the country of France, as well as throughout Europe and the world. The Coriant solution, which includes the Coriant mTera™ Universal Transport Platform (UTP) and Coriant® hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform, met RENATER’s stringent network architecture requirements with industry-leading features such as hybrid Optical Transport Network (OTN) and packet switching, flexible protection and restoration, and coherent 100G optical transport. Management of the mTera™ UTP and hiT 7300 network nodes will be supported by the Coriant® Transport Network Management System (TNMS), an end-to-end management platform that simplifies service provisioning and reduces operating expenses.

“Our customers continue to experience increased demand for fast, reliable, and high-capacity connectivity to support a wide range of critical research and education applications, including bandwidth-intensive data transfer, video conferencing, and grid computing,” said Patrick Donath, director of RENATER. “In bringing new and more robust capabilities to our underlying transport infrastructure, we were looking for a highly flexible technology solution with the ability to efficiently and cost-effectively meet current as well as future capacity requirements – and Coriant proved the most capable and trusted solutions provider.”

Optimized for metro and regional applications, the mTera™ Universal Transport Platform is an extremely flexible multi-service transport solution that seamlessly supports OTN switching and packet grooming as well as an advanced ROADM-based optical layer in a single, power-efficient system architecture. The hiT 7300 is an industry-leading coherent optical communications system that supports the secure and reliable transmission of 100G+ per channel. The hiT 7300 achieves a total system capacity of up to 9.6 Tbps per fiber pair via 96 x 100G channels, and is designed to support up to 25.6 Tbps when using advanced flexi-rate, flexi-grid, and super-channel capabilities powered by Coriant CloudWave™ Optics. The Coriant solution for RENATER also includes a comprehensive range of network support services, including planning, migration, installation, maintenance, and training.

“RENATER’s selection of our mTera and hiT 7300 platforms is an important success for Coriant. It proves that our solutions meet both today’s and tomorrow’s requirements within the National Research and Education Network (NREN) community, and furthermore underscores the commitment of Coriant to the French market,” said Tarcisio Ribeiro, Executive Vice President, Global Sales and Services, Coriant. “As our global customers evolve their backbone networks to accommodate higher volumes of data and much more dynamic service and application demands, we are helping them meet their most pressing network challenges with a proven portfolio of highly programmable and scalable packet optical transport offerings.”

The mTera™ UTP and hiT 7300 are key components of the Coriant Dynamic Optical Cloud™ Solution, which combines a flexible transport infrastructure, dynamic network control based on the Coriant Transcend™ SDN Solution, and integrated network planning to create a powerful toolkit for multi-layer network efficiencies and next-generation service innovation in a new networked world.
