Nokia Sets Benchmark as the First Finnish Company With BCR Approval

  • The first time Finland Data Protection Authority has ever awarded Binding Corporate Rules approval to an organization.
  • BCRs are the gold standard of privacy compliance, demonstrating Nokia’s commitment to trusted handling of customer and employee data.
Nokia announced it is the first Finnish company to obtain Binding Corporate Rules approval for data protection and privacy. By achieving this gold standard of privacy compliance, Nokia is recognized by data regulators for its excellence in safely managing customer and employee data, as well as upholding the data protection rights of individuals.

BCRs are a collection of legally binding data protection rules which impose the high standards of Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation on all signing group entities enabling the free flow of personal information across Nokia organization. After rigorous review and comment by all 27 European Data Protection Authorities, Nokia’s BCRs have received ultimate approval by the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman, Nokia’s lead authority.

“Privacy and the protection of personal data enables trust in our technology, our business, and our operations. For us, respecting privacy is not only about being compliant with laws, but also fundamental to our values as a trustworthy and ethical company. Becoming the first Finnish company to obtain BCRs is clearly an important milestone for us, and one that demonstrates the trust and respect regulators have for our privacy standards,” said Esa Niinimäki, Chief Legal Officer of Nokia.
