RailTel and Nokia Modernize India's National Long-Distance and Metro Optical NetworksRailTel Collaborates with Nokia to Modernize its National Long-Distance and Metro Optical Transport Networks Across IndiaNokia (NYSE: NOK) today announced the successful upgrade of RailTel’s (NSE: RAILTEL) DWDM National Long-Distance (NLD) network, undertaken in collaboration with its authorized partners. Nokia has deployed RailTel’s Carrier-Grade NAT (CG-NAT) and metro optical transport network across India. These initiatives collectively address the growing demand for high-speed, resilient connectivity, driving operational efficiency and reducing costs. Leveraging Nokia’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) and advanced transponder technology, the enhanced network achieves a substantial increase in transport capacity while minimizing cost per bit. By reutilizing RailTel’s existing infrastructure and previously unused channel spectrum. The deployment also introduces high-capacity Lambda transmission and express traffic lanes between cities, significantly improving overall network performance. The partnership adopts a vendor-neutral, open-network approach, fostering future innovation and technological advancements across RailTel’s optical footprint. Nokia’s 7750 Service Router (SR), integrated with Broadband Network Gateway (BNG) and CG-NAT functionality—empowers RailTel’s network to efficiently support enterprise-grade high-speed traffic alongside internal ISP services. This unified network architecture enhances intercity traffic resiliency while addressing RailTel’s expanding bandwidth requirements. Source: Nokia media announcement | |
