M1 and Ericsson To Jointly Implement AI-Powered Transport Network Automation in Singapore

M1 and Ericsson announced a strategic collaboration to enhance M1’s 5G network with advanced automation and analytics, and best-in-class network observability.

The partners will work on the commercial deployment of the new Ericsson Transport Automation Controller — a cutting-edge, cloud-native solution designed to transform how transport networks are managed and operated.

Ericsson Transport Automation Controller, which has achieved proof of concept, leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to automate and optimise operations across microwave, IP, and optical transport networks with precision. During the proof of concept, the transport controller successfully identified sources of interference, enhancing synchronization monitoring, service assurance, and advanced root cause analysis (RCA) capabilities.  In addition, by providing AI-driven insights, and automation, the controller enables M1 to make proactive, data-driven decisions, streamline operations, and optimise power consumption across its microwave links, supporting the company’s sustainability objectives and improving overall network performance.

Having completed a successful trial, M1 will integrate Ericsson Transport Automation Controller into its microwave transport network in the initial phase. With plans to extend the transport controller capabilities to its IP transport network over time, M1 is well-positioned to continue pushing the boundaries of network excellence.

“This marks a significant milestone in our digital transformation journey,” said Mr Denis Seek, Chief Technical Officer, M1. “By adopting intelligent automation, we are not only enhancing our network performance and reliability but also strengthening our commitment to sustainability and excellent customer experience.”

ETAC intelligence and resilience capabilities in M1’s 5G network are especially crucial for mission-critical sectors. Enterprise customers depend on M1’s resilient connectivity to support critical port operations where uptime, service assurance, and reliability are paramount.

Mr Daniel Ode, Head of Ericsson in Singapore, Philippines and Brunei said: “This collaboration reflects our shared vision with M1 to lead the future of network automation.” Through this joint initiative, M1 and Ericsson reaffirm their commitment to innovation, accelerating digital transformation and contributing to a more connected, automated, and sustainable future.

Network Automation is a major leap forward in enabling intelligent, sustainable networks that support digitalisation efforts across key industries in Singapore.
