EXATEL Selects Ciena Pluggables for Multi-vendor Network

EXATEL Selects Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Nano ZR+ Pluggables for Multi-vendor Network

Open architecture provides high-speed connectivity in Poland and to hubs in neighboring countries

Ciena announced that EXATEL has selected its WaveLogic 5 Nano 400G ZR+ coherent pluggable transceivers to support its multi-vendor, software-defined networking infrastructure—the first open, disaggregated architecture of its kind in the country.

With this upgrade, EXATEL’s customers—which include businesses, government agencies, financial institutions, enterprises, and service providers, among others—will benefit from more robust, higher-capacity, and ultra-low-power 400G connectivity.

Key Facts:
  • With one of the largest fiber-optic networks in the country, at 23,800km, EXATEL directly connects Poland to telecommunications hubs in London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Kiev, Stockholm, Prague, Milan, Vienna, Marseille, and Paris, linking onward to interconnection points abroad.
  • EXATEL is deploying Ciena’s WL5n pluggables across multiple router vendors over an open photonic line system. Through this open, converged IP/optical solution, EXATEL gains cost, power, space, and operational efficiencies.
  • Incorporating Ciena’s advanced coherent optical technology, WL5n provides industry-leading pluggable performance for footprint-optimized 100G–400G interconnect for access, metro-regional, and data center interconnect applications. WL5n’s support of interoperable 100G–400G modes, robust performance, and less than 20-watt-per-plug power consumption mean EXATEL can be assured of reliable, sustainable network performance.
Executive Quotes:

“We chose Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Nano because it offers highly reliable 400Gb/s connectivity and seamless interoperability with our disaggregated network stack that we built ourselves, allowing us to efficiently maximize the utilization of our fiber infrastructure, while simultaneously minimizing the need for expensive infrastructure upgrades.”

Jacek Terpiłowski, Chief Technology Officer, EXATEL

“By offering flexibility and diversity, open network architectures make it possible for operators like EXATEL to accelerate the development of new services and applications for evolving customer needs. The selection of Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Nano—our trusted WaveLogic technology in pluggable form—by EXATEL for its high-performing, multi-vendor environment is testament to our interoperability expertise.”
