Adax Deploys Virtualized Signaling Gateway Solution

Adax Launches Virtualized Signaling Gateway to Meet Network Demands

Service providers are turning to virtualization to deploy network elements for multi-protocol, divergent, networks quickly and cost effectively.  As a result, Adax, the industry leader in high performance signaling and packet processing for network infrastructure, has launched the Adax vGW, a virtualized, signaling gateway solution that can be implemented on datacentre servers.  This allows fixed and mobile service providers to use virtualization to scale and deploy the network elements and reconfigure capacity as required, according to the real-time traffic conditions.

The Adax vGW meets any signaling interworking requirement delivering the scalability, flexibility, throughput, and performance to manage the convergence and growth of networks whilst maintaining legacy TDM SS7 connections and infrastructure.  This reduces the total cost of ownership of legacy equipment and enables the seamless transition to new IP-based networks.  The Adax vGW also provides configuration options that allow it to function as an STP in an SS7-IP network.

“Service providers are making the transition to 4G, 5G and IP-based networks but legacy SS7 connectivity for voice, SMS and IN applications still remains an absolute requirement.  With virtualization, operators can make new services available more rapidly and at a lower cost but in many cases still need to support legacy TDM SS7 connections”, explains Robin Kent, director of European operations at Adax.

“Service providers need to ensure that they maximize the return of investment in their networks and are keeping TDM equipment in service – particularly the end-node voice switches.  In remote communities such as Africa, India and rural Americas the solution is much the same: keep the TDM equipment at the edge, modernize the core with IP and backhaul the SS7 links over the core.  In some of those areas the GSMA is predicting that 2G and 3G connections will continue to rise.  Being able to integrate the legacy TDM to the virtualized gateway function is a key benefit of the new Adax vGW”, adds Kent.

The Adax SX provides a front-end to the Adax vGW for SS7 TDM T1/E1 links (DS0 and HSL) and can simplify SS7 LSL concentration by removing the burden of moving individual DS0s via drop-and-insert on long-haul circuits. No additional point codes are required at the remote Signaling End Points and traffic between the SEPs and the STP can bypass the need for a cross-connect device.

The Adax vGW features and benefits:

  • Virtualized solution for installation on datacentre rack mount servers
  • High performance and guaranteed reliability
    • Virtualized High-Availability options with no loss of service during switchover
  • Functions as an STP in an SS7-IP network
  • Maintains SS7 TDM connectivity and interworks with cost effective IP links
  • Covers all legacy interworking requirements:
    • T1/E1/J1 LSLs, Annex A HSLs, ATM T1/E1, OC3, OC12, GbE
    • ANSI, ITU, UK, Chinese & Japanese national variants
    • SIGTRAN M2UA, M2PA, M3UA and SUA
    • SS7 GTT, SCCP, MTP3/b, MTP2/Annex A and ATM
    • Signaling Interworking: SS7/IP, IP/IP or ATM-IP
  • Unparalleled scalability and flexibility to protect investment in both Legacy and IP networks:
    • Delivers the link density and throughput to enable service providers to manage the convergence and growth of their networks
    • Enables service providers to maximize revenues and satisfy consumer demands for new services whilst maintaining traditional TDM signaling in the new IP networks
  • One management interface for all configurations that are reconfigurable & re-deployable
