Telecom Ecosystem Group Releases Report to Boost Telecom Innovation

Surviving Disruption: A Practical Approach to Telco Innovation Ecosystems

Telecom Ecosystem Group announced the release of “An Ecosystem Model: Innovation in the CSP Supply Chain” that presents a practical approach to boost innovation in the telecom industry. In the paper the Group proposes a new ecosystem model and methodology derived from real-world experience which will boost innovation through more effective stakeholder partnerships with increased start-up engagement.

On February 15th at 7:00am PST there will be an on-line colloquium to discuss the ecosystem model and consider next steps to help the telecom industry improve its ability to develop and field innovation.

The document is intended to be the basis for a broader industry discussion on telecom supply ecosystem innovation and we invite feedback on the proposed approach as well as additional typical use cases and examples. In addition, follow-ups under consideration include developing a formal modeling representation of typical use cases and we are asking the community to suggest other potential follow-on actions.

Diego López, Head of Technology Exploration and Standards at Telefónica said:

“Telefónica is well aware of the need for healthy ecosystems to achieve all the network transformation potential we have been pursuing since we started this journey more than ten years ago. And do note the plural referring to ‘ecosystems’ is totally intentional. Telco space needs to become multi-dimensional, and the model proposed by the TEG document sets the foundations for this new telco space geometry”

Shekar Ayyar, CEO, Arrcus said:

“Telecom carriers need more agile processes that are start-up friendly to consume best-in-class technologies, so they can stay ahead of the innovation curve. The ecosystem model proposed by TEG is a great framework for thinking through the key requirements for a successful collaboration between CSPs and innovative technology providers.”

Dan Pitt, President, Palo Alto Innovation Advisors said:

“The Telecom Ecosystem Group has identified a critical obstacle to the future success of the industry and has taken a bold step to dissect the problem and offer constructive remedies. The success of this initiative will depend on the willingness of the operator community in particular to adopt new processes for encouraging, supporting, and adopting innovations of all types.”
