Data Transmission Capacity Growing Between Brazil and USTelefonica to Deploy Submarine Cable Between Brazil and The US to Increase Data Transmission Capacity For VideoTelefonica has announced it is deploying a new submarine cable connecting Brazil, Puerto Rico, and the United States to increase data transmission capacity via ultra-fast broadbandSpanish telecommunications company Telefonica announced through a press release that it will deploy Brusa, a new submarine cable that will connect Brazil, Puerto Rico and the United States. This investment in infrastructure aims to increase the transmission capacity via ultra-fast broadband to a market of growing demand for video and data for “B2B customers, telecom operators, OTT companies and final consumers”. The cable will be 11,000 km long and will connect Rio de Janeiro and Fortaleza in Brazil with San Juan of Puerto Rico and Virginia Beach in the US. It is expected to be operational in early 2018. “The cable will improve the reliability of communications and provide greater resilience by increasing the number of access points in the US, the overall performance of the global network and the end-to-end security. Brusa will also provide one of the lower latency communication link between the continent’s two largest economies, Brazil and USA, and will provide greater flexibility and scalability than other systems deployed to date”, read the statement. Brusa will join Telxius, the new global company recently created by Telefonica to optimize its infrastructure portfolio and gradually will incorporate progressively, including part of its cell tower and optic fiber networks.
