Brazilian Postal Service Becomes MVNO

Brazilian postal service Correios has launched its own mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) service

Correios, a Brazilian postal service, launched its own mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) service, according to ZDNet, aiming to have a user base of 8 million subscribers by 2022. .

Correios has been working on becoming an MVNO for some time as it seeks new ways to diversify its revenue sources. The company has lost some R$2 billion (around $636 million) in revenue over the last couple of years. Telecom Italia’s mobile operator TIM will provide the service for Correios Cellular, which has partnered with Surf Telecom to distribute the network. Customers can purchase a single prepaid package that offers 100 minutes plus 1GB of 3G or 4G for R$30 (roughly $9.50).

Demand for MVNOs is set to take off as consumers look for more value from telecom companies, according to Transparency Market Research. By 2023, the global MVNO market is projected to be valued at $75 billion, growing at a CAGR of 7.4%.
