“New Year's Resolution: To tolerate fools more gladly, provided this does not encourage them to take up more of my time.”
- James Agate, British Diarist and Critic,
1877-1947.

Well, old man 2007 has passed on, and the bouncing baby known as 2008 is rolling out. Right around now, we're all fumbling through our long list of foibles searching for a particularly obnoxious one to cast aside in the New Year. We'll start using that treadmill in the corner of our basement or start drinking more pomegranate juice. We'll visit our Aunt Mildred more often or finally throw out that box of Sade albums.

From a business standpoint, what changes will we make? Will we, like Mr. Agate, choose to suffer fools, or will we realize that merely tolerating customers in an age of massive competition is a recipe for disaster. Will we realize that time and money spent in the right places will ensure a happy new year when we welcome 2009?

In this issue of Pipeline, we take a look at one area in which we can choose to spend our time and money: Service Delivery Platforms. We hear from several industry experts on the modern realities of SDPs and the promises they hold. We also delve into a conversation on modern product management, as well as take a look at your OSS news and the year in review.

We hope that you enjoy the issue, and resolve to continue to turn to Pipeline for in-depth coverage of the OSS space. We encourage it, and ensure that you are welcome to take up as much of our time as you'd like.

Right around now, we're all fumbling through our long list of foibles searching for a particularly obnoxious one to cast aside in the New Year.

All the best for the year ahead,

Tim Young
Editor-in-Chief
